It’s in your moment of raw honesty that Jesus rolls up his sleeves and begins to restore you by his grace. I know that sounds like a churchy thing to say, but God totally understands your struggle. You can come to him in any condition. He loves you in your slobbery, ugly, vulnerable, flailing mess. He welcomes your doubts, frustrations, questions, and confusion. His mind is already made up about you on the cross.

It’s in your exposed humanity that God’s grace really works, and it won’t work any other way. You don’t have to hide.

There is one thing that Christian self-help books never tell you. They never tell you how to handle the time in between the state you are in now and the position you want to be in. They barely explain what to do when you are in the desert.

If you are in a place of longing then I know how it feels. I won’t tell you that God’s going to make a way for you soon or that you need to trust in him more. No what a completely insensitive thing to say. What I would say is that you need to hold onto him even if it’s just with one worded prayers or one Bible verse a day. Your faith may be small but that doesn’t change the fact that our God is big.


Loneliness hurts, but please know: having a ton of friends doesn’t guarantee happiness either. You can be just as lonely in a crowd as inside your head.
